Headshot of lead therapist, Kirsten

Kirsten Reynolds, MSW, LCSW

Hey, everyone! My name is Kirsten (Ker-sten) and I hate feeling stuck. Whether it’s feeling frozen, overwhelmed, confused, underprepared, or just generally trapped - it’s all the worst. I have spent the last 12 years of my life fully committed to healing and learning how to teach other people to do the same. I have done this by being in my own therapy (it works), getting a master’s degree in social work (I got a 4.0, so you know I worked hard on that), getting job experience in just about every field of social work that I possibly could, participating in supervision, regular trainings, reading, surrounding myself with healthy community and mentors, licensing exams, changing my habits, and showing up to do the work on a regular basis. Healing, encouraging others, and learning new things are passions of mine - and it makes what I do feel purposeful and exciting. I got into this field because I felt called to it, but the longer I am here, the more I realize I also got into it for the healing of myself and my family.

I am originally from Southern California and I moved to Houston, Texas the day before Hurricane Harvey hit (can you believe the timing!?). I really love all things creative, the mountains, traveling, my family, friends, my sweet pets, and my faith. While I don’t use any type of faith in my therapy services unless a client specifically asks for it, I have experienced how important faith is in life - especially at the end of life - and how helpful it can be in bringing people healing and peace.

Script words "Education and Training"

I have a Master's degree in Social Work from Western New Mexico University. Social Work is different from other therapy degrees in that it teaches clinicians to focus holistically on the individual, family, environment, systems, and cultural factors when it comes to woundings and behaviors. I am also a trained minister and have a bachelor’s degree in Christian studies (youth ministry and global studies emphasis). I have spent time as a chaplain, social worker, and therapist and have worked with children all the way up to geriatric populations. I’ve lived overseas and have spent time among different cultures, spent time working with specialized populations (like veterans and human trafficking survivors), and have had my own family history that required healing. These experiences, coupled with my value for continued learning, have encouraged me to seek out regular trainings that make me a well-rounded and well-informed provider. For more information on the things I am in the process of learning, check out the books below and the section on extended education at the bottom of the page!

Specializations for Adults

  • Trauma-Informed

I have been working with trauma for several years and am trauma-informed in all the therapies I do with clients. Because of this, I prioritize safety in relationship and take a bottom-up, somatic approach with people who have experienced trauma in their lives.

  • Relational and Attachment Wounds

Healing relational pain is foundational to growth and freedom, so my practice addresses what it looks like heal past pains and create safe, healthy attachment and relationship to others.

  • Family of Origin Work

My practice offers guidance in exploring the impact of family dynamics, systems, culture, and wounds to help clients make sense of their past and how it shapes their present. FOO work is an integral part of creating healthy family and identity.

  • Spiritual Issues

I help individuals explore and find solace in their spiritual journeys and deal with the impact of religious trauma or existential, painful questions that may feel overwhelming to navigate alone.

  • Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)

I believe that at the heart of all healing is a trust-based, safe relationship. My training in TBRI allows me to provide support for clients looking to build trust and connection with their inner child and other significant relationships through safe and compassionate relationship building. • Post Induction Therapy (PIT)

PIT is a specialized approach that I use to guide clients through the process of addressing attachment, relational, and immaturity issues. This encompasses an assessment of emotional wounds, education and timeline work, inner child connection, chair work, feelings reduction work, and using somatic release to help relieve symptoms of anxiety, depression, addiction, and more. Learn more Here.

  • The SSP (Safe and Sound Protocol)

I am trained to use of the SSP to help individuals regulate their emotional responses, reduce stress, and build resiliency. The SSP is the only Polyvagal-theory led, scientifically-backed approach to regulating the nervous system through sound. To learn more about how this works, watch the video about the SSP on our services page or click Here.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

I am trained in the art of Motivational Interviewing, a collaborative, client-centered approach that helps individuals find the motivation and confidence to make positive changes in their lives. Whether you're looking to overcome obstacles, establish healthier habits, or achieve your goals, MI can be a powerful tool in your journey. Learn more Here.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

My expertise in EMDR allows me to offer a proven modality for processing and healing traumatic experiences from a more holistic and body-based approach. After about 2 years of utilizing EMDR, I started the certification process in Jan 2024. I enjoy using this tool as a framework to guide clients towards fast and deep relief from their trauma-related symptoms. Learn more Here.

  • Personal Growth

My practice focuses on developing emotional maturity and regulation skills with clients to enhance emotional well-being and help clients take positive, healthy control of their lives so that they can live with intentionality and peace. I enjoy incorporating the Enneagram, values assessments, EFT, and more into your personal growth journey as tools to help you do your identity and growth work.

  • Grief and Loss

Our services provide support for those navigating the complexities of grief and loss. According to recent grief research, grief must be witnessed in order to begin healing. I believe that allowing someone to witness your grief in the context of a safe, therapeutic relationship brings a special level of care to help you move through your loss.

  • Helping Professionals

At Gracefully Rooted, we understand the unique challenges faced by professionals in the helping fields and offer specialized support so that you can find sustainability in the hard work that you do. My husband is a nurse and I am a social worker - so we have been there! If you are a therapist looking for extra support and are not a current client of mine, join our free discord: here.

  • Brainspotting

I use Brainspotting in sessions with clients to facilitate deeper, more impactful processing of whatever issues they want to work on. Brainpotting uses the connection between our eyes and our brain to get to deep-level subcortical brain processing. For an in-depth look into brainspotting and how it works, watch this video: Here.

  • Ego-State Work

I use ego-state therapy (parts work) to help give clients resources to prepare them for the deeper emotional work we do in other therapies like Brainspotting and EMDR. Integrating parts work helps us recognize which pieces of ourselves need more care and attention so we can better tolerate difficult processing. Learn more Here.

  • Sexual Abuse and Trauma

If you are looking for someone who is not just a “general trauma specialist” but who also has experience and expertise in this specific area, I would be glad to help.

  • Couples Work

I enjoy doing work with couples that are looking to improve communication, emotional connection, and overall wellness in their marriages. I do not work with/specialize in berayal trauma, spouses that are actively acting out/betraying their partners, or spouses that are not both equally interested in doing couple‘s therapy or who are looking for divorce help.
